Suffolk Senior Championship 2017

The Suffolk County Closed competition was played on 21st & 22nd January 2017 at Ipswich Sports Club with the largest entry for a few years.

Gus Beecroft, from Moreton Hall Leisure, is the new Champion having beaten last year's runner-up, Nick Ramsey in a straightforward 3-0 final.

The B event saw some long hard matches, with many of the players also playing in the O45s, Racketball, Doubles, etc which meant that there were lots of tired legs by the final which was won by Andrew Ramsey, 3-1 over Richard Whitfield.

By the time the O45 finalists took to the court, both players had played more matches than is good for men of their advanced years. Even so, both produced a hard, competitive match, Tom Ison being inspired to win the last few points by being blasted by the ball at very close quarters in the final game.

The entry for the Racketball Championship was disappointing, reflecting the lack of take up of the game outside Ipswich. Mike Muncaster played powerfully to defeat Mark Cracknell's more delicate game 3-0.

All in all, a good weekend with a good entry and well supported.
