Lucy Turmel's assault on the Women's senior tour has taken a major step forward with her first PSA Tour win in the Barcelona Open. Having just celebrated her 18th birthday, the win underlines the progress she has made in 2017 with a world ranking around 80 and heading upwards rapidly.

Lucy was unseeded going into the tournament and defeated several seeds on the way to the final; Alison Thomson (SCO), Ineta Mackevika (LAT) and Tessa ter Sluis (NED). And in the final she won a tough 3/2 match against 6th seed Deon Saffery of Wales. All those wins underline the progress Lucy has made, because all those players played in the PSA Tour event, the Ipswich Open, in May. In that event, Lucy had a wildcard entry because she had so few ranking points and lost in the first round - to Deon Saffery. Six months on, her game has improved to the extent that she has won her first PSA title.

In the intervening months Lucy played in the Junior World Championships in New Zealand and returned with a new found confidence that first saw her take 5th place in the European Championships in Nottingham, her first senior England cap, and now the Barcelona Open.

Her game has undoubtedly benefitted from the work over the summer at the Ipswich Sports Club with England Junior Coach Lee Drew and Club Coach Ali Livingstone as well as competitive matches against many of the Club's senior players. She has also been lucky to work with the country's top player, Laura Massaro, who recently visited the Ipswich Club to play an exhibition with Lucy and spend some time with the Club's other junior players.
