England have retained their European Junior Championship for the 9th successive season with Suffolk's Lucy Turmel winning the deciding rubber in the final match of the tournament in Poland on April 1. The English team of Curtis Malik, Nick Wall, Tom Walsh , Alice Green and Lucy Turmel cruised through the pool stages of the event with clean sweeps against Ukraine, Germany, Netherlands and Italy. Lucy was rested for the QF against Spain, her place being taken by Alice Green, her opponent in the preceeding week's individual final. Another win and England faced Ireland in the semi, Lucy's 3-0 win seeing England into another final against 2nd seeds France.

For the first time in the event England went behind - Tom Walsh losing 3-1 to the Boys' individual champion Victor Crouin in a 52min match. Nick Wall squared the match 3-0 after a tetchy 1st game which left Lucy to win the final rubber and lift the title for England. As reigning European champion Lucy was odds on to win but even so her demolition of her opponent was impressive. Lucy 3-0; England 2-1; job done. England European Junior Champions for the 9th successive season.
