Ipswich Sports Club's Lucy Turmel has had a successful week at the British Junior Open, finishing 3rd in the Girls' U19 behind two girls in the top 50 in the world. The BJO attracted the best in the world with over 600 entries from more than 30 countries. As expected there was a strong Egyptian entry but Malaysia and the US were also present in force; the US brought 50 players along with 15 coaches! The tournament was played at four venues around Birmingham with the focus on Edgbaston Priory and the fantastic new facility at Birmingham University, although they only used 6 of the Uni courts in addition to the all glass show court.

Lucy was seeded 3/4 in the 64 player draw and fulfilled that seeding beating the US No1 on the way to a semi final against Japan's Satomi Watanabe, ranked 48 in the world senior rankings. The semi was tight until late in the 4th when Watanabe put together a quick run of 5 points to see her into the final. Lucy went on the win the 3/4 play off 3-2 against Essex's Elise Lazarus.
